One of the best parts about getting married is the wedding dress shopping! You grab your squad and find THE dress that you’ve spent a good part of your life dreaming about! But how far out should you buy your dress? Well, it depends on your personal goals before the wedding date. Don’t worry though, we have a good idea of when to buy, especially with Anya Bridal!
When To Start
Ideally, you should begin shopping for your wedding dress for at least one year before the wedding date. This gives you enough time to look through every dress option you are interested in.
So here’s the million-dollar question: what if you lose or gain weight? It’s stressful thinking about body image for brides. You should still look for your wedding dress a year in advance even if you are expecting to lose or gain weight. Just make sure you factor this into what size you should purchase! After all, that’s what alternations are for! But do remember it is easier to take material out of a dress to size it down than it is to size it up.
When To Order The Dress
A popular option for wedding dress shopping is to come to the bridal store (hi! That’s us!) and to try on dresses to find the one that you love. This is a great way to get your mom or mother-in-law involved and can also be something that you do with your bridesmaids. If you’re not sure about what kind of dress to get, we have great stylists that can advise you on what wedding dress styles could flatter you! We can also help with your budget, seasonality, what is in fashion, and the different shades that suit your coloring. Some dresses can take up to 4-6 months to arrive in the store once you’ve found the design you like, but we also specialize in “off the rack” gowns that you can take home the SAME day!
Allow Time For Alteration
You should allow between 1 and 3 months for alterations, no matter how you’re purchasing your wedding dress. This allows for any alterations based on weight changes. Alterations can include anything from taking a dress in or pulling the hem up because you’ve changed your wedding shoes and they’re now lower. Whatever it is, make sure you give yourself enough time for these before the big day. 6 weeks is usually a good time to have your last wedding dress fitting and get ready to take that dress home for your big day!
We can’t wait for you to stop by Anya Bridal to buy your dream wedding dress! And just so you lovely ladies know, it’s never too early to buy your gown. We’ve had brides buy their dresses two years in advance and we’ve had brides that buy their dress the same week as their wedding! No matter what your buying style is, we’re here for you!
